Angela Davis & Gina Dent — August 2 thru 4, 2018

Angela Davis & Gina Dent will soon begin their course, "Politics and Aesthetics in the Era of Black Lives Matter" (August 2 thru 4 2018) at EGS in Saas-Fee, Switzerland!

This course will depart from the vibrancy and provocations of current Black political movements and revisit debates in cultural theory from the foundational periods of the 1980s and 1990s. Themes from these earlier debates persist with respect to, for example, cultural appropriation, authenticity, positive/negative images, or form and content.  The seminar discussions will question whether and how these conversations, framed primarily inside British and U.S. contexts, retain relevance when used as the basis for global theorizations.  Interrogating and attending to this specificity in the context of black feminist and transnational engagement, we will consider the ongoing challenges posed by art practice for political life.

Angela Davis and Gina Dent will also be giving a Public Evening Lecture on August 3rd, 2018 at 8:15pm (at the Steinmatte, in Saas-Fee). Free & Open the Public! This lecture will also be live-streamed on FB and IG!
