The PACT Division of the European Graduate School is delighted to announce an exciting new development for its 2020 programming:

The Division will convene in a single summer meeting that begins July 24 in Bergamo, Italy.  Three sets of seminars will be hosted by the Accademia di belle arti Giacomo Carrara in Bergamo over an 8-day period.  The Accademia is a beautiful, well-equipped venue that should provide special inspiration. Students will also enjoy comfortable accommodation.

We therefore look forward to enjoying the grace of northern Italy in a format that involves a full EGS experience and enhanced contact with scholars and artists from Italy.  In Bergamo, our curriculum will feature our Slovenian team (Slavoj Žižek, Alenka Zupančič, and Mladen Dolar), a seminar on art and AI with three distinguished practitioners (Casey Reas, Rainer Kohlberger, and a third to be confirmed), and then seminars with the film-maker Ruben Östlund and Siegfried Zielinski.  We also look forward very much to a workshop with the distinguished Polish film-maker, Michał Marczak.

It may be difficult to leave Bergamo at the beginning of August, but we will have the comfort of moving to the stunning beauty of Saas Fee for the final two weeks of the session.  For Saas Fee, we are still awaiting a few confirmations, but we have an exceptionally strong series of seminars planned with new and returning faculty (including Catherine Malabou, Avital Ronell, Ben Bratton, and Elie During).  The Saas Fee component of our session will feature our fourth science colloquium (tentatively entitled “Leaving Earth”), and we look forward to announcing the other seminar events very soon.

The Malta session will unfold in Valletta during the normal October period.  We look forward to convening with a marvellous group of faculty in an enhanced seminar space in the center of Valletta (at the newly restored Old Campus building).  This meeting will be no less exciting than our summer one, and we urge you to keep an eye out for announcements on our media sites, which are about to be integrated with a new website.  This new website features a rich archive of past lectures and we trust that you will find it to be a valuable point of reference.

The sessions will offer credit-bearing seminars that serve matriculated students and those pursuing certificates of study; we will also accept applications from visitors who only wish to attend individual seminars (space allowing).

2020 should be a unique and important year for the PACT Division.  We will launch a collaborative program with the Instituto de Estudios Criticos, 17, in Mexico City, and are exploring the possibility of other collaborative events in exciting sites.  Again, we urge you to keep an eye on our media in this transformative moment for the EGS.

Information regarding accommodation in Bergamo and directions for travel will shortly be available on the PACT/EGS website.  For any other information the Bergamo program, please contact Assistant Dean, Dr. Nemanja Mitrović (nemanja.mitrovic@egs.edu).  And for other questions regarding the EGS program or curriculum, please feel free to contact Dean Christopher Fynsk (christopher.fynsk@egs.edu) or Dr. Mitrović.  For information about application procedures, students can contact Sarah Hannis (admissions@egs.edu).
