Celebrating 30 Years of Arts, Health, and Society at EGS: Connecting Past and Future in Expressive Arts
This year, the Arts, Health, and Society Division of the European Graduate School (EGS) proudly celebrates its 30th anniversary! For three decades, we have been at the forefront of Expressive Arts, cultivating a global community of dedicated scholars and practitioners who are making a meaningful impact around the world.
Our journey has been marked by significant milestones, including the Poiesis Journal, the co-organization of the Spring Symposium with our partnership institutes, and numerous influential publications. Over the years, many students have trained at EGS and are now using Expressive Arts to respond creatively to challenges in diverse communities worldwide. Their work reflects the depth, purpose, and passion that define our approach.
To honor this legacy, we invite you to join us for a very special Summer Session 2025. This gathering will be a unique opportunity to reflect on our past achievements and explore how they can inspire the future of Expressive Arts. Our theme, “A Legacy of Integrity, a Future of Possibilities,” captures the spirit of this celebration—bridging our history with new horizons.
Register now to be part of this milestone event! The deadline is April 30.
Together, let’s celebrate 30 years of learning, creativity, and transformation. The past has brought us here—let’s shape the future together!
Happy 30th Anniversary, EGYeS!

Expressive Arts, Digital Arts and Media (Module KS)
This module gives the student an in depth introduction to Expressive Arts in relationship to low skill high sensitivity, Intermodal Decentering IDEC® and the intermodal approach. Media today is an integral part of our culture and this module also opens up new channels of exploration where Digital Arts and Media can be used as a source of communication with the Arts and through the Arts. It can be taken on campus during the first period and is required for students who do not have any cooperating institutes in their home country that offer it as K module or for those students who wish to take the module as an intensive training program rather than have it spread out throughout the year.
Expressive Arts Practice A-P
This 11 day Summer Session module is run during the first period and focuses on group supervision from an Expressive Arts perspective. The essential aspects of an arts-oriented session using the method of Intermodal Decentering IDEC® will be introduced and discussed. Students present situations or cases studies from their practice and will also learn how to integrate the Expressive Arts in their work through various demonstrations. Live coaching is an opportunity to recognize and develop professional resources and to transform weaknesses and insecurities into strengths.

Expressive Artscape: Playing with Artistic Intelligence (AI)
Since the 1990s, this symposium has blossomed into a beloved tradition, evolving and adapting with time to embrace diverse forms and locales. Recently, it has expanded to both virtual and in-person formats, crossing continents, and has now arrived at the enchanting doorsteps of Costa Rica.
Each Spring Symposium is graced with a meaningful theme. We’ve journeyed for example ”Refinding Lost Harmonies” in Tenerife to “Restory-ing” in our last virtual gathering in 2024. Every symposium resonates with profound significance, creating spaces for healing, learning, and sharing stories among professionals. For more information on past spring symposiums, visit https://ahs.egs.edu/professional-development/european-expressive-arts-spring-symposium/.
We warmly invite the global community of teachers, psychologists, and changemakers passionate about using the arts for transformative purposes to join us for our thrilling new theme: “Expressive Artscape: Playing with Artistic Intelligence (AI).” Come to Costa Rica for an enriching experience at the Expressive Arts Spring Symposium 2025.
