Biography
Étienne Balibar (b. 1942) is a Professor of Philosophy. He has taught at the University of Paris X-Nanterre, at University of California Irvine and is currently an Anniversary Chair Professor at the Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy (CRMEP) at Kingston University and a visiting professor at the Department of French and Romance Philology at Columbia University. His most important works are: Reading Capital (1970), The Philosophy of Marx (1995), We, the People of Europe? Reflections on Transnational Citizenship (2004), Violence and Civility: On the Limits of Political Philosophy (2015).
