Certificate of Study

Qualified individuals have the opportunity of attending an EGS session without studying for an advanced degree. These non-matriculated participants will attend the equivalent of a full PACT session in Saas Fee or Malta (6 seminars) and receive recognition for their study. The only requirements are attendance and the submission of brief response papers for each seminar (these responses are not graded).*

Admission Requirements

Applications to pursue a certificate of study should be made through the normal application portal.  Requirements for admission are comparable to those for the normal degree programs: the equivalent of a B.A. degree or substantial professional experience and achievement.

*Please note that this opportunity is available during our 2020 sessions for students who wish to participate as full members of EGS courses (together with matriculated students).  Students who undertake Certificates of Study sometimes transfer into a degree program, and this is possible by reason of the fact that students must apply to the PACT Division of the EGS to pursue a Certificate of Study.
However, the online platform created for the 2020 meetings (summer and fall) also allows us to offer a “Certificate of Online Study” for individuals who complete four courses as auditors.   The only requirement is attendance. This opportunity affords a very considerable discount and is open to the public (individuals need only register: there is no application process). You may register for this Certificate of Online Study here.

Degree Requirements

A certificate is normally earned in the course of a year. But it is possible to receive a certificate of study for participation over a two year period.  In this case, the student will attend more than one session and complete a total of six seminars.

Saas-Fee

Known as the “Pearl of the Alps,” Saas-Fee is located near the Matterhorn of Wallis (Valais). Surrounded by thirteen mountains, it is the main village in the Saastal or the Saas Valley and a municipality in the district of Visp within the canton of Wallis (Valais) in Switzerland. Its location close to the glaciers of the Dom and the Allalinhorn, along with its neighboring mountain peaks, such as the Weissmies, the Nadelhorn, and the Lenzspitze, have made Saas-Fee an attractive destination in the Swiss Alps with recreational opportunities throughout the year including skiing, caving, snowshoe trekking, mountain climbing, canyon climbing, and ice climbing.
