A Proof by Snow – lecture by Sreten Ugričić

A Proof by Snow – lecture by Sreten Ugričić

Saas Fee, Switzerland, August 23rd at 8:30 pm

Reality is revocable, art is not. The lecture will propose a proof by snow. Not by real snow, but by the appearance of snowing in art. Six works of art will be considered (by Pieter Bruegel the Elder, Miroslav Holub, Adalbert Stifter, Sasha Petrovic, James Joyce and Wallace Stevens).

Some works of art may deliver to the given regime of reality an effect similar to a sudden short-circuit somewhere at its periphery that induces a widespread blackout and causes the entire system to crash irreversibly.

The lecture will propose a proof by snow.

Some works of art open us to experience the hidden and forgotten discrepancy between unquestionable and unanswerable, between solely accessible and perpetually inaccessible, between the absolute authority of the only reality known to us and its irreducible irrevocable alterity.

The lecture will propose a proof by snow.
