The Hour of Fragility

The Hour of Fragility reflects on the mutations entailed by the pandemia. It raises the issue of what makes possible a new thought when the present becomes uncertain. It argues that pandemia is not a contingent matter that can be an object of thinking, rather, it transforms us as subjects of thinking. In order to demonstrate the way the pandemia transforms us as subjects, “The Hour of Fragility” discusses (critically) Agamben’s views on the relation between disease and politics. Moreover, it takes up the notion of « essential goods » which currently defines a new social order and new relations to the Law. Finally, it reflects on the way the pandemia has transformed our relation to speech, memory, rights, institutions, but also our categories of thinking, and our possibilities to reflect upon ourselves.
