Achille Mbembe is 2024 Holberg Prize Laureate

We are proud to announce that our friend and colleague Achille Mbembe is a recipient of the Holberg Prize, an award that goes annually to an outstanding researcher in the humanities, social science, law or theology. This prize is administered by the University of Bergen, on behalf of the Norwegian government.

Achille Mbembe will receive the award on June 6 at the  University of Bergen . He is the first African scholar to receive this prize.

About the Holberg Prize
Established by the Norwegian Parliament in 2003, the Holberg Prize is one of the largest annual international research prizes awarded for outstanding contributions to research in the humanities, social science, law or theology. The Prize is funded by the Norwegian Government through a direct allocation from the Ministry of Education and Research to the
