EGS Open Lecture: Mathia Diawara & Terri Geis

We are happy to announce that the second lecture in the EGS Open Lecture series will be conducted by Professors Mathia Diawara and Terri Geis.

Mathia Diawara & Terri Geis
“The New Sacred Since André Breton and Édouard Glissant”

Thinking with Édouard Glissant’s concept of relationality and André Breton’s ideas of the marvellous, Diawara and Geis will examine visions of a new sacred, with artists of Africa, the Caribbean, and the African Diaspora as lifelines within an otherwise depersonalized contemporary world. Breton and Glissant, Surrealism and Afro-diasporic discourse open the door of a world coming together, intermingled and continuously changing. They introduce us to a truth in which the origin is not significant, it is instead an elusive trace, or fragment, both hidden and revealed.

This event is scheduled for June 15th, at 8 p.m. CET (11 a.m. PST).

It will be broadcast via Zoom with 300 open spots available.

Zoom participants will be able to pose questions to Professors Diawara and Geis at the end of their lecture. Applicants will be admitted on a first-come-first-serve basis.
